As this ranking is obviously taken from the THES list, it’s a bullshit ranking. THES mostly measures reputation, which is at best a combined opinion of a number of would-be experts. The selection procedure is highly questionable. But, of course, the most important objection to opinion based rankings is that some well-known universities will never drop, as the ranking of 2008 is based on their 2007 standing etc. While some lesser known universities will move around drastically year by year, as it depends on who you happen to ask. That’s why Harvard is always number 1. It isn’t based on anything other than that because it was number 1 the year before, it has a good reputation. It’s very obviously a self-fullfilling prophecy. (It’s important to note that George W. Bush has an MBA from Harvard. You can say many things about this idiot, but certainly not that he resembles anything that has to do with even the mildest form of intelligence.)
